Extended Day Teachers for the 2008-2009 School Year
We have openings for Before Care and After Care Teachers for the 2008-2009 school year.
Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the Extended Day teachers is to supervise and ensure the safety of all children enrolled in the program. In addition, they make sure that the Extended Day experience is positive for the children and that the activities are consistent with the pedagogy of the school.
Program Hours
- Before Care: 7:30 am - 8:20 am Monday through Friday
- After Care: 3:20 pm - 5:45 pm Monday through Friday
- Applicants looking for more hours are encouraged to apply as substitute or coverage teachers
Responsibilities
- Supervise the children for the before or after care programs
- Carry the cordless phone to be available for calls and to be able to call for emergencies or assistance
- Plan, secure and prepare a healthful afternoon snack for children
- Plan regular activities and secure supplies for those
- Keep accurate records of children attending and days/hours to be reported to Business Manager
- Check in daily with supervisor to report any concerns, accidents, or other critical information to ensure good communication and oversight of the program
- Fill out incident reports and follow up with parents on any injuries or behavioral problems
- Make sure that the areas used are clean and returned to original condition
- Respond appropriately to individual needs of children and youth
- Encourage children and youth to make positive choices and to become more responsible
- Guide the behavior of children and youth and serve as a role model, an adult worthy of imitation
- Encourage positive interaction among the children and youth
- Maintain open lines of communication with families who use the program
- Ensure the program's indoor and outdoor spaces meet the needs of the children
- Report site or facility problems to the Building Manager
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Waldorf education and practices
- Ability to communicate appropriately with children between 4 and 14 years of age
- Training or experience in youth supervision
- Training in First Aid and CPR
