Background

From modest beginnings in south Minneapolis in 1981, our school has grown into a complete elementary and middle school with three kindergartens. We moved into our new building on our eight and one-half acre campus during the 2000-2001 school year.

Philosophy
At the heart of the Waldorf approach is the honoring of the individual child: knowing that each child has his or her own individual spiritual essence, psychological temperament, and way of learning. While recognizing that each child is an individual, Waldorf education also acknowledges that every child passes through typical stages of development. Both the subject matter and the way it is taught must relate to those developmental stages. The curriculum is designed to meet the intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of each child at each stage of development.

Students
The Minnesota Waldorf School has nearly 200 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through eight. Our students come from diverse social, economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds and include children with special needs. We are proud that we make it possible for a large number of children to attend through tuition assistance and scholarship programs.

Facilities
Our school is located on eight and one-half acres near the intersection of Highway 36 and Rice Street in Maplewood. Our campus is a village of buildings and gardens—all used for work and learning. The entrance to the site is canopied with mature oak trees and the land carpeted with woodland perennials. The low-rise school buildings are organized around play yard and gardens.
